A Diary of an Adolescent

I was free. Running through a lush green field with a basket full of flowers on my hand. I didn’t know where I was going, but all I know was that I was enjoying every single second of it. Birds were chirping beautifully, singing a song that I could listen to on and on. Slowly but surely, the chirps turned into painfully repetitive alarms — by then, I had woken up from a dream I didn’t want to wake up from.

They say “a dream is a wish your heart makes”, but I had been too busy with my head not to realise my own feelings. In truth, it hurts to realise that you’ve been neglecting your own feelings to achieve something that you’re not even sure your heart wants. It was painful, really.

I hate having to ignore my own feelings, but I know that I have to do that to be able to achieve greater goals and to chase bigger dreams. All I can do now is to dream of the day where I’ll be able to look back on the sacrifices I’ve made, pat myself on the shoulder, and whisper a little “congratulations”.
